DEN grounded on the question “how might we enhance the travel experience of groups with divergent interests?” It particularly narrowed down this question by focusing on the inefficient communication during conferences: between the host and the attendee, and among attendees.
This issue was important to investigate as: (1) Conferences have a large number of attendees and tight academic and social programs. Disconnections between stakeholders cause prior organizations to dissipate and waste valuable time. (2) For attendees, conferences are for networking. Not having a channel for their interaction with one another limits social benefits of conferences, especially for packed programs with limited free time to socialize, and for less experienced attendees who have fewer contacts.
